Corporation Tax Services

The assistance you can receive under the heading of Corporation Tax range from the preparation of your company annual tax return and calculation of tax liabilities or repayments to advice including company purchase of own shares, reorganisations and claims for research and development expenditure.

Providing you with an all round service is our objective. This can involve advice on areas including advantages and pitfalls of taking dividends rather than salary, most beneficial time to acquire equipment, pension schemes for directors and employees and anything else that may affect the tax position of your company.

We enjoy working closely along side our clients and will always provide advice that takes into account the personal tax position of the shareholders and directors as well as the company itself.

You can benefit from the excellent contacts we have in both the legal and financial worlds or alternatively, we are happy to work along side any existing advisers that the company may have.

You will find that our constant aim is to provide cost effective professional advice given in a friendly manner.

Personal Taxation

The services you can receive range from the completion of your annual tax return to guidance on tax planning and consultancy on various matters including the sale and purchase of businesses, shares or homes etc.

We deal with individuals who are employed and self-employed, from children to senior citizens, people with complex investment income to those who can claim repayment of tax.

Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax or Inheritance Tax - you will benefit from our services

You may like to give us the paperwork then later be told where to sign the form or perhaps prefer detailed explanations. Whilst the final responsibility of ensuring that a tax return is correct always remains with the “Tax Payer”, we do everything we can to make your life as easy as possible.

You will benefit from our assistance by fulfilling your legal obligations with regard to the tax authorities whilst taking full advantage of allowances and exemptions that may be available.

Fees are generally on an hourly rates basis taking into account the level of staff involved and an estimate of the likely fee involved can be obtained before we start work so there are no surprises in store.

We are pleased to work with any other professional advisers that you may have or alternatively we can recommend lawyers and financial advisers in whom we have confidence. In this way you are assured of a complete service.

Our aim is to ensure we give a value for money service with sensible advice delivered in a friendly professional manner.

You can rest assured that if we are looking after your tax affairs you will not be given advice which you do not understand or could lead to awkward questions from the Inland Revenue.

If you would like further information or perhaps like to talk through your situation then please contact one our partners or send us an e-mail and we will contact you.

The sale, transfer or even gift of an asset can give rise to a charge to tax – normally

Capital Gains Tax

The types of assets where we can assist and advise you include the sale of property (including second homes), businesses, shares in companies and other valuables.

You may be someone who regularly buys and sells stocks and shares or perhaps this is the first time you are about to sell or gift a valuable asset. Either way we will be happy to help you keep any tax liability down to the legal minimum.

You can also rest assured that when we are requested to provide advice on a proposed transaction, we will look at your entire situation. This may enable us to suggest alternative ways to help you reach your objective in the most tax efficient manner.

In addition, we will consider other taxes, which may be in point including Inheritance Tax so that you do not save one tax only to end up paying another.

Large transactions often need the services of lawyers and we are happy to work along side your existing advisers or introduce you to our trusted professional contacts. Whatever you decide we are happy to attend meetings with you if this is needed so that your best interests are always maintained.

We pride ourselves in providing clear, professional, cost effective advice all given in a friendly manner.

Our fees are based on the time necessarily spent and the seniority of the staff involved in our work on your behalf. We can normally provide an estimate of our likely fee and in any event there will never be a commitment until you formally instruct us to act.

Estate Planning – Inheritance Tax

Few of us like to think about dying, however the relevant legislation requires us to plan well in advance. This means making the necessary provisions now.

The help we offer on Inheritance Tax is designed to improve the size the estate left to your dependants and heirs whilst ensuring your own situation is totally secure.

Your peace of mind is of paramount importance

Although the issues involved can be complex, we try to ensure that all planning suggested is fully understood and is both ethical and cost effective. In addition we will consider all possible taxes so that saving Inheritance Tax is not at the expense of a large Capital Gains Tax bill.

It is important to us that everyone concerned is comfortable with our advice in every respect. You will find that we are happy to include your family members in our discussions if this is what you want.

Our work will usually include a review of all of your financial affairs and of course the provisions of your Will.

To make life as easy as possible for you we can provide a complete service using our own trusted legal and financial colleagues. Alternatively, we are happy to work along side your existing professional advisers.

The fees for this work will normally be based on how much time is necessary to be spent safe guarding your best interests and will also depend upon the complexity of your financial affairs. From experience the benefits, which you and your family obtain from our work, will make the cost of our fees well worthwhile.

In any event, we are happy to provide an estimate of the likely fee involved before there is any commitment from you.

For more information or perhaps just to talk through your situation please contact our tax partner, Roy Bristow or any of our partners. Alternatively send us an email and we will contact you.

HMRC Investigations

Being the subject of a tax investigation by the HMRC can be a stressful and worrying experience. With the onset of personal and corporate self-assessment, Revenue staff can now review cases on a 'sample basis'; consequently, tax investigations have become more frequent.

We have a wealth of experience in dealing with HMRC investigations, whether they are enquiries into an individual’s Tax Return under the Self Assessment regime, more detailed enquiries or employer-related investigations into PAYE and P11d compliance.

If you are about to be the subject of an investigation, we can provide expert help and support.

Fee Protection

With the increased risk of such investigations it may be worth considering taking out an annual insurance policy to protect you and your business from unexpected costs; an investigation will undoubtedly result in additional accountancy work being undertaken. The amount of work will depend upon the complexity of the case but the cost could be substantial.

What is Fee Protection?

Fee Protection will offer you peace of mind by paying the additional professional fees required to provide you with the right level of representation should you be subject to an investigation, enquiry or dispute with the tax authorities.
